Collection: Art Therapy

Michelle Hawksworth is a Clinical Mental Health/School Counsellor with extensive experience working across public, private, community and school settings. She holds a master’s degree in creative arts therapies at MIECAT Institute, as well as an Adv Dip in Therapeutic Arts in Counselling, Dip in Community Services with Chisholm and Yoga and Mindfulness teaching training, with Yoga Australia. Michelle has also completed a week’s intensive in Narrative Therapy at the Dulwich Centre. Michelle has been a practicing counsellor since 2016, mainly in the school setting and telehealth, specializing in neurodiversity, trauma informed, separation, grief, mental health conditions, from anxiety to PTSD.


Michelle uses a person-centered approach in all her sessions and incorporates the therapeutic art modalities and nature-based tools to help in her therapeutic approach. Michelle’s experience as a yoga and mindfulness teacher is incorporated in her sessions to help create a toolkit of strategies to help build confidence and strength as a way of moving forward on your journey. Her therapeutic approach is collaborative, nonjudgmental, focusing on building safety and trust while empowering clients to build their skills to journey through life.


Michelle’s special interests include working with children and families, helping to build a toolkit of strategies, anxiety, separation, school refusal, social skills, emotional regulation, friendship groups, self-esteem, neurodivergent individuals, attachment and relationships, fear, trauma, working with Indigenous children and helping families build a better relationship with their young person.


Other interests include working with adult clients that have had trauma related and mental health challenges, from anxiety, fear, poverty, lack of self-worth, social and emotional and community engagement.


Michelle is passionate about making a difference to any person’s life and tries to create a safe and light-filled space to take the pressures off coming to counselling, using art modalities lightens the pressure as you don’t always have to use words, being creative is enough.


Some of the modalities that are available are: Movement, Sound, Walking in nature, being on the land, painting, drawing, collage, clay, sand tray, using all materials to create, coloring, mindful breathing, yoga postures, storytelling, and poetry.


Michelle is passionate about making a difference, however small and is open for a 15-minute free meet and greet over the phone to determine whether we are the right fit.


Michelle is available on Mondays at Jindarra Park.
